I finished this top ages ago, and it is such a pretty quilt. Having been busy with crocheting tea cosies for the last six months, I finally got around to quilting this top and I'm pretty happy with the result. Sadly, its now too hot to use it, so I'll have to wait for some cooler nights.<br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is the quilt I didn't submit in time for the last bloggers' festival but am submitting for this one. <a href="http://amyscreativeside.com/bloggers-quilt-festival/" target="_blank">http://amyscreativeside.com/bloggers-quilt-festival/</a></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I made this quilt for my niece, who wanted a teal coloured quilt.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">First, I drew a small scale drawing </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aYaZQxeGCF4/UlEyqnM51mI/AAAAAAAADVU/ozHf_ALcoGY/s1600/PA050307.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aYaZQxeGCF4/UlEyqnM51mI/AAAAAAAADVU/ozHf_ALcoGY/s1600/PA050307.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> Then glued together long strips of grease proof paper, to draw the entire quilt at full scale.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This is a picture heavy post, a bit similar to this cosy, which is very heavy for a cosy.<br />

I don't like it much. It's boring. These are meant to be carnations. Pink is not my favourite colour. I could embellish this more, but given that it will sell for about $12, I won't bother.</p><p>Now to make a new base for the sunflower (stolen for the daffodil cosy). Ho hum.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-wSl6e6dIAKY/U-C7ejKWIlI/AAAAAAAAEnE/qhHB-B5hS70/s2048/P8050005.JPG" target="_blank" style=""><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-wSl6e6dIAKY/U-C7ejKWIlI/AAAAAAAAEnE/qhHB-B5hS70/s500/P8050005.JPG" id="blogsy-1407240924544.685" class="alignnone" width="500" height="375" alt=""></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Qyy6EdwAa2k/U-C7G2vv5xI/AAAAAAAAEm0/_01edHTkRWk/s2048/P8050003.JPG" target="_blank" style=""><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Qyy6EdwAa2k/U-C7G2vv5xI/AAAAAAAAEm0/_01edHTkRWk/s500/P8050003.JPG" id="blogsy-1407240924568.896" class="alignnone" width="500" height="375" alt=""></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"> </div><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vXngPMmYbms/U-C7qzwjsJI/AAAAAAAAEnM/_M_SHQpZvNQ/s2048/P8050006.JPG" target="_blank" style=""><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vXngPMmYbms/U-C7qzwjsJI/AAAAAAAAEnM/_M_SHQpZvNQ/s500/P8050006.JPG" id="blogsy-1407240924596.4453" class="alignnone" width="500" height="375" alt=""></a></div><p> Maybe more hyperbolic crochet (think coral) for the next one, although that is similar to the carnations. I only have two ufo tops left to finish, my tone it down top and the really boring low volume top. I might add borders to it so I can use it as the backing for the tone it down top.</p><p>Talking to my sister one night, I decided to make her an owl cosy as a bit of a joke. I found a copy of an old pattern on Grand Purlba's site, bought a crochet hook and yarn and jumped right in.</p><p> Stupidly, I can't find a good photo of the final product!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-8CzqWjLNku8/U9LWOKUddAI/AAAAAAAAEiU/UkBxC3x1woA/s960/2014%2525207%25253A54%252520AM.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-8CzqWjLNku8/U9LWOKUddAI/AAAAAAAAEiU/UkBxC3x1woA/s500/2014%2525207%25253A54%252520AM.jpg" id="blogsy-1406326368102.3992" class="alignnone" alt="" width="500" height="375"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-X-ciakHL-wo/U9LWUbHCppI/AAAAAAAAEic/w9V7UrCRfnk/s960/2014%2525207%25253A53%252520AM.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-X-ciakHL-wo/U9LWUbHCppI/AAAAAAAAEic/w9V7UrCRfnk/s500/2014%2525207%25253A53%252520AM.jpg" id="blogsy-1406326368025.2969" class="alignnone" width="500" height="667" alt=""></a></div><p>In May, I saw a knit/crochet along for a pineapple tea cosy and had to join in! I didn't like my effort of the crochet stitch, so did a bit of research and found another stitch which I thought would work a treat. Obviously, that meant I couldn't follow the kal pattern. </p><p>Anyhow, I ended up making two pineapple cosies, one for my sister and one for me.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-NR0Tocic8eQ/U4pnn65PbGI/AAAAAAAAEVw/7nvlOszueYA/s2048/P6010022.JPG" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-NR0Tocic8eQ/U4pnn65PbGI/AAAAAAAAEVw/7nvlOszueYA/s500/P6010022.JPG" id="blogsy-1406326368083.234" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="375"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3WXdOSywpP0/U3X7xR5YkpI/AAAAAAAAEVM/A2qQ3Rquybs/s2048/P5160024.JPG" target="_blank" style=""><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3WXdOSywpP0/U3X7xR5YkpI/AAAAAAAAEVM/A2qQ3Rquybs/s500/P5160024.JPG" id="blogsy-1406326368126.624" class="alignnone" alt="" width="500" height="375"></a></div><p> </p><p>Charity cosies were next. I played around with the layouts forever. Each quilt uses the reverse block of the other. I drafted my own template from cardboard and used it to cut the curves. As the quarter circle takes up most of each block, I had to find layouts that didn't require all four bulky seams to come together.<br />
<br />
These are lap quilts and I gave them to the recipients before I went on holidays. Due to the rush, I forgot to label them! Whoops.<br />
<br />
I have been busy making tea cosies for family and charity and will show these in my next post. I tried to teach myself to knit, and failed fantastically, so all the cosies I have made are crocheted.<br />

This year I was entering a quilt in the original design quilts. Sadly, I missed the deadline by a couple of hours. Here is what would have been my entry.<br />
<br />
I made this quilt for my niece.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IAYSXYtNx9k/UvmgmH1wB9I/AAAAAAAADfY/vdh05TpFnAo/s1600/P2110008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IAYSXYtNx9k/UvmgmH1wB9I/AAAAAAAADfY/vdh05TpFnAo/s1600/P2110008.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
First, I drew the design on paper, to decide how to make the tail.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aYaZQxeGCF4/UlEyqnM51mI/AAAAAAAADVU/ozHf_ALcoGY/s1600/PA050307.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aYaZQxeGCF4/UlEyqnM51mI/AAAAAAAADVU/ozHf_ALcoGY/s1600/PA050307.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then transferred it to a huge piece of paper I made from cheap kitchen paper glued together, to create pattern pieces</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-23Hxyydq4gw/UlEyuGFhfBI/AAAAAAAACMY/OFlYAIoscjU/s1600/PA050312.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-23Hxyydq4gw/UlEyuGFhfBI/AAAAAAAACMY/OFlYAIoscjU/s1600/PA050312.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
The tail was sewn together, the body machine appliqued to the tail. Then cam the fun of creating the eyes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jAXG4fcI_L8/UqPHNvTS_cI/AAAAAAAACbU/0ZdFFdXsSCE/s1600/PC080005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jAXG4fcI_L8/UqPHNvTS_cI/AAAAAAAACbU/0ZdFFdXsSCE/s1600/PC080005.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Each eye is made from four different fabrics, with two of them needle turned applique and the smallest and largest machine appliqued. Fifty three eyes later........<br />
<br />
The back was made, basting done and it was quilting on my sewing machine. I quilted the fern design from Angela Walter's book on the tail sections of the peacock. The label information was part of the quilting, then it was bound, washed, dried and sent off to my niece.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RF06W2rMnkc/Utz2f1QD5yI/AAAAAAAADaE/G9V3AUuMkCI/s1600/P1200003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RF06W2rMnkc/Utz2f1QD5yI/AAAAAAAADaE/G9V3AUuMkCI/s1600/P1200003.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qEO8hEQW6DU/Uvmgj6YCDVI/AAAAAAAADd4/3VMGkECwhmM/s1600/P2110007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qEO8hEQW6DU/Uvmgj6YCDVI/AAAAAAAADd4/3VMGkECwhmM/s1600/P2110007.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>

Joined a pineapple tea cosy knit/crochet along, although I only crochet. </p><p>The layout of my second DP lap quilt is decided. Just the setting triangles to cut.</p><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-gbDrczvsdxY/U2f5lVCz2OI/AAAAAAAAETM/vQZd1WgesAQ/s2048/P5060027.JPG" target="_blank" style=""><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-gbDrczvsdxY/U2f5lVCz2OI/AAAAAAAAETM/vQZd1WgesAQ/s500/P5060027.JPG" id="blogsy-1399378956266.6643" class="alignnone" alt="" width="500" height="667"></a></div><p> </p><p>I also finished the owl tea cosy for my sister. It hasn't turned out quite as expected, but it can be the prototype (size wise) for the pineapple tea cosy, which is also for my sister. I'll make a big raspberry for my teapot, as it is short and stout.</p><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;">I just realised I don't have a finished picture of the owl! Maybe the next post.</div><p>The pineapple tea cosy has involved a lot of unraveling. I didn't like my effort with the puff stitch, so created my own pattern. The original pattern is the top bit and the stitch I have decided on is the bottom section. I had more than half finished the second side before I realised it was too wide, so had to unravel the whole thing and start again. Grrr to self.</p><p>I hope to have it finished in a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed that I won't have to unravel again, although I might redo the first side to make it straight. I am brain dead.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ygvLGBuVROc/U2f4nMWvcjI/AAAAAAAAESc/AeQwc_pV8Oc/s2048/P5040021.JPG" target="_blank" style=""><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ygvLGBuVROc/U2f4nMWvcjI/AAAAAAAAESc/AeQwc_pV8Oc/s500/P5040021.JPG" id="blogsy-1399378956352.3125" class="alignnone" alt="" width="500" height="375"></a></div><p> </p><p> </p>Elvis Liveshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00407975774594200487noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-699611763173677256.post-72846710349170762202014-04-27T14:57:00.000+10:002014-04-27T15:05:00.942+10:00Final layout - modern drunkard's pathAfter mucking around with more possible layouts for the first quilt (and not wanting to make a square quilt), these were some of my other options.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh99IhFEK1gJTzcA9aGdFO6A763Va1moXLTuffhkpTTOcDsLgfLFjEny9lcE0Fj8EqtMQj1qiH2y5HWZcQjdwWuY1VOYsR68W9eU_D5wWBGxVfvAzSQASpouwvd5OLPue5Ee693Xsg3NmfS/s1600/P4270019.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh99IhFEK1gJTzcA9aGdFO6A763Va1moXLTuffhkpTTOcDsLgfLFjEny9lcE0Fj8EqtMQj1qiH2y5HWZcQjdwWuY1VOYsR68W9eU_D5wWBGxVfvAzSQASpouwvd5OLPue5Ee693Xsg3NmfS/s1600/P4270019.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This one would have let me use an uneven number of rows/columns</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim2ZlC_3e5S2NUDLRHaKXnwrJqzXwARUT2nR-7ldJHV7rHBStBPRN8RlfWHaQpa8-mjVMGWtsq1TAP2UJtOE9aUdTqZORFO1qZQnB_bIijKO7C8Q-jSCE774R4Zm-7LLyGIWPFfslv-WZq/s1600/P4270020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim2ZlC_3e5S2NUDLRHaKXnwrJqzXwARUT2nR-7ldJHV7rHBStBPRN8RlfWHaQpa8-mjVMGWtsq1TAP2UJtOE9aUdTqZORFO1qZQnB_bIijKO7C8Q-jSCE774R4Zm-7LLyGIWPFfslv-WZq/s1600/P4270020.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This one really wants to be in multiples of six</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0VYdJzXeJoF7wBpd16AgxNk_vG_3r_t1PyDJtFYYAH2OK6LbP5spiZfgwHdC1O5Xz83aMno52NFqO1lg24Syt4mJVhWZpePwta9hIkQlvAVPexNH8pQXgvc4aTiIwSZdThZvwf3mLnrBd/s1600/P4270021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0VYdJzXeJoF7wBpd16AgxNk_vG_3r_t1PyDJtFYYAH2OK6LbP5spiZfgwHdC1O5Xz83aMno52NFqO1lg24Syt4mJVhWZpePwta9hIkQlvAVPexNH8pQXgvc4aTiIwSZdThZvwf3mLnrBd/s1600/P4270021.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is the layout I've settled on for the first quilt. I'm really happy with it, even if I have to unpick about 6 blocks and resew them, as they're a bit far off on the corners. They all still need trimming. This layout gives lots of movement and secondary shapes which I like.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The blocks will end up at 8 inches finished, so I should end up with a lap quilt 64 x 48 inches.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The layout for the second, mirrored blocks is completely up in the air. I still have another 18 blocks to sew before I start to lay it out.</div>
<br />Elvis Liveshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00407975774594200487noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-699611763173677256.post-31590669701927858152014-04-26T10:59:00.001+10:002014-04-26T17:45:44.395+10:00Too many WIPs - Progress reportI became a finisher. <br />
Now, I have returned to my earlier self and procrastinate.<br />
I started to piece some drunkards path blocks - I want to make two lap quilts for a couple of friends, but I'm wavering on the layouts. Here are some possibilities. I might make them mirror images, one with the dark quarter circles and the other with the light. Any ideas?<br />

I should have done this from the beginning, apart from the first block.<br />
<br />
It has been a mountain of sewing - I webbed the sub-units to make sure I didn't get them muddled - thanks Bonnie Hunter!<br />
<br />
Here are the last four blocks.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jyFTuDSVRu4/Uz-96TQML8I/AAAAAAAAD8I/wUM9Uy4i-5Q/s1600/P4050020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jyFTuDSVRu4/Uz-96TQML8I/AAAAAAAAD8I/wUM9Uy4i-5Q/s1600/P4050020.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zbrj7qi7Zz8/Uz-98ou5a-I/AAAAAAAAD8Q/7tkKrWYijRo/s1600/P4050021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zbrj7qi7Zz8/Uz-98ou5a-I/AAAAAAAAD8Q/7tkKrWYijRo/s1600/P4050021.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dMoOdYVyQ-U/Uz-9-EZEhgI/AAAAAAAAD8Y/OkjN-ua9NVs/s1600/P4050022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dMoOdYVyQ-U/Uz-9-EZEhgI/AAAAAAAAD8Y/OkjN-ua9NVs/s1600/P4050022.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sfPaNDzyKwc/Uz-9_oNgiqI/AAAAAAAAD8g/4TNx-VYuh30/s1600/P4050023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sfPaNDzyKwc/Uz-9_oNgiqI/AAAAAAAAD8g/4TNx-VYuh30/s1600/P4050023.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And here they all are together. Obviously my design wall is not high enough to fit them all on. This isn't the final layout and I still have to make 27 more nine patches for the sashing, but its looking lovely.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Da9nP8ANAIo/Uz--BdmvzWI/AAAAAAAAD8o/AeB4q5T9_Xc/s1600/P4050024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Da9nP8ANAIo/Uz--BdmvzWI/AAAAAAAAD8o/AeB4q5T9_Xc/s1600/P4050024.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
It is such a pretty quilt.<br />
<br />
The hexagons continue, although I am starting to get stabbing pains in my hand - I think from all the hand sewing. I might have to slow down on those. <br />
<br />
Once the Tone it Down quilt is finished, I'll have two quilt tops to baste and quilt and one still being made into a top. I think I've already decided on the next one - curved piecing!Elvis Liveshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00407975774594200487noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-699611763173677256.post-92165016897209599032014-03-29T15:30:00.000+10:002014-03-29T16:13:31.957+10:00APQ Tone it Down quilt - blocks 15 and 16 - hooray!Only four left to make! I've started to put up some of the sashing that I originally cut up. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-M6YN9tnIVW8/UzZXcwfFOuI/AAAAAAAAD5g/kWYXBaVWFnI/s1600/P3290003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-M6YN9tnIVW8/UzZXcwfFOuI/AAAAAAAAD5g/kWYXBaVWFnI/s1600/P3290003.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JVTy_BbDzU4/UzZXetH9S_I/AAAAAAAAD5o/8fOrbg_i_nM/s1600/P3290004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JVTy_BbDzU4/UzZXetH9S_I/AAAAAAAAD5o/8fOrbg_i_nM/s1600/P3290004.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
That blue sashing at the top right might have to go.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CGixeaaAe5o/UzZXhgT0TsI/AAAAAAAAD54/dZ8iEPeNH1Y/s1600/P3290005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CGixeaaAe5o/UzZXhgT0TsI/AAAAAAAAD54/dZ8iEPeNH1Y/s1600/P3290005.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Even after I make the last four blocks, I've still go heaps of little nine patches to make - there's only one up so far, but it is a light at the end of the tunnel.<br />
<br />
I think this will be a very pretty quilt. Not sure if I should give it away or keep it for myself. <br />
<br />
Hexagons so far for my not GMFG really quilt. These finish with one inch sides.<br />

Blocks eleven and twelve are now done - It takes about four solid hours of sewing to complete two blocks - that is with most of the pieces already cut. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xL25SAjvDcU/Uy4_F7nzMzI/AAAAAAAAD38/PZvorVU5ep0/s1600/P3230002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xL25SAjvDcU/Uy4_F7nzMzI/AAAAAAAAD38/PZvorVU5ep0/s1600/P3230002.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
Blocks so far...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w7UXJySuTvM/Uy4_JulYrlI/AAAAAAAAD4M/5T9honeDDRc/s1600/P3230004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w7UXJySuTvM/Uy4_JulYrlI/AAAAAAAAD4M/5T9honeDDRc/s1600/P3230004.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I've also completed a few more flowers for my hexi quilt. I only make these on the train, down at the dog park and at night time if I watch a bit of telly. These hexis have one inch sides, excluding the seam allowance, and I've been sewing them together with a running stitch. This is more my style - lots of loud colour.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-42KAs8JrVaE/Uy4_LFRuZuI/AAAAAAAAD4U/iDAOY23-Hvk/s1600/P3230005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-42KAs8JrVaE/Uy4_LFRuZuI/AAAAAAAAD4U/iDAOY23-Hvk/s1600/P3230005.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>

I'm still painting our little sitting room - it is bright yellow. So, lots of things in progress.Elvis Liveshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00407975774594200487noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-699611763173677256.post-1478341675182342912014-03-21T18:41:00.001+10:002014-03-21T18:49:05.808+10:00Lab it upon Christmas day, I promised my sister's husband a quilt. I finished the flimsy a couple of weeks, or maybe a month, ago and finally got it out and basted, quilted and bound last weekend.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Nm4As_iuNjw/Uyv23iuRF7I/AAAAAAAAD3M/Fy6rSFlI1jU/s2048/P3170002.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="" class="aligncenter" height="375" id="blogsy-1395391298990.6846" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Nm4As_iuNjw/Uyv23iuRF7I/AAAAAAAAD3M/Fy6rSFlI1jU/s500/P3170002.JPG" width="500" /></a></div>
He just phoned to let me know it had arrived and couldn't remember that I had told him I'd make one for him. It is a lap quilt, measuring 69 x 52 inches and depicts their dog, Fred and the kangaroos he used to want to chase.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I'm a bit embarrassed that the colour scheme is not very soothing, but the thought is still there. As usual, I quilted the label information into the border, rather than attaching a label. You need a mirror to read it from the back.<br />

Not another!<p> I have too many WIPs. Last week I finished two flimsies and still haven't basted them, never mind quilted them. No progress on the tone it down QAL. But..... I have started a new quilt.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-39tZNfCOeGk/UyF5f0p9fXI/AAAAAAAAD2o/JaMtF4GaXWM/s2048/P3130004.JPG" target="_blank" style=""><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-39tZNfCOeGk/UyF5f0p9fXI/AAAAAAAAD2o/JaMtF4GaXWM/s500/P3130004.JPG" id="blogsy-1394708772103.99" class="alignnone" width="500" height="375" alt=""></a></div><p> </p><p>Hexis. One inch hexis, sewn with a running stitch, as EPP does not appeal to me. I've started with a central fussy cut single petal flower and each centre expands to become the petals of the next flower. There will be approximately 365 flowers and I only have enough different fabrics for about 175 flowers. Looks like I'm going to have to have repeats. There is no way I can afford fabric for another 180 different flowers.</p><p> Linking up with:</p><p><a href="http://www.conniekresin.com/2014/03/linky-tuesday_11.html" x-apple-data-detectors="true" x-apple-data-detectors-result="0">http://www.conniekresin.com/2014/03/linky-tuesday_11.html</a> </p>Elvis Liveshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00407975774594200487noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-699611763173677256.post-79809527732961692292014-03-08T12:09:00.001+10:002014-03-08T12:11:22.976+10:00TGIFF flimsyI'm not sure if it counts as a finish, but the lap sized flimsy for my sister's husband is done. Have to baste it and quilt it now. Fred is still watching those kangaroos.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hZLde4jvRqQ/Uxp5QBgvV1I/AAAAAAAAD1A/VtHuIJP4jD8/s1600/P3080004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hZLde4jvRqQ/Uxp5QBgvV1I/AAAAAAAAD1A/VtHuIJP4jD8/s1600/P3080004.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I've also started to sew together my unsuccessful low volume quilt that has no purpose. Four seams left to sew and then I might get around to quilting it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-peCk5mq7igk/Uxp5OekuxsI/AAAAAAAAD1c/x8Gu-Cjx3Dg/s1600/P3080003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-peCk5mq7igk/Uxp5OekuxsI/AAAAAAAAD1c/x8Gu-Cjx3Dg/s1600/P3080003.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
No progress on the APQ Tone it down QAL, as I need to finish these first. <br />
<br />
I've crocheted another floor rug, but no pics here.<br />
<br />
Now that I have nothing left to do on the train, I've started hand sewing another hexi quilt. This time, I'm using 1 inch hexagons and creating single flowers which will butt up against each other. There will be a few fussy cut flowers, but not too many to overwhelm the other flowers.<br />
<br />
I'm not sure if this will become a queen size or double, but I plan for it to take a long time.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8V-41CjQuTo/Uxp5M-UNnjI/AAAAAAAAD0w/oD74SXKJO1w/s1600/P3080002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8V-41CjQuTo/Uxp5M-UNnjI/AAAAAAAAD0w/oD74SXKJO1w/s1600/P3080002.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I hope I like this one when its done, as I don't really like the last few quilts I've worked on. This one is more my style.<br />

Pictures of the flimsy will be in my next post. I'm trying to find some 505 basting spray in Brisbane, but it seems rather difficult to do. I might have to pin baste once again, as the stuff they sell at Spotlight simply doesn't work.Elvis Liveshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00407975774594200487noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-699611763173677256.post-10089602118943687242014-02-18T21:01:00.000+10:002014-02-18T21:04:55.441+10:00APQ quilt along - blocks five and six<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Whoo hoo. I finally finished quilting and binding the peacock quilt last week. This weekend, I gave it a wash and............ colour bleed from the orange!!!!!! Washed it again with Dylon Runaway which mostly, but not completely, worked.<br />

and the APQ Tone it down QAL. I've managed three block so far. They are very time consuming and I think the cutting takes longer than the piecing! No work has been done on my low volume squares quilt, even though it has as little purpose as the APQ QAL. Perhaps it is because it is boring piecing.<br />

These are the only three kangaroos that I can ever imagine paper piecing. These are for a quilt for my sister's husband. I still have to make a black labrador (Fred) applique for the quilt, as Fred wants to chase kangaroos when he goes for a walk in Canberra's suburbs, but can't catch them.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSmxT72PBIqi22DGthc4jgaMJh583nKRcSPWvzwSLr12hXDFPt25mfmxFqv9sAA-87eyA8JVe69_GkCbcrc0DY8tiPGvlFSaWLIs0hK7_Y65NZKJ8BHSWnPCjaTleqD4_1A0lbIuIxMcbr/s1600/P1270002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSmxT72PBIqi22DGthc4jgaMJh583nKRcSPWvzwSLr12hXDFPt25mfmxFqv9sAA-87eyA8JVe69_GkCbcrc0DY8tiPGvlFSaWLIs0hK7_Y65NZKJ8BHSWnPCjaTleqD4_1A0lbIuIxMcbr/s1600/P1270002.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Kangaroo one</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I found a fantastic program on the web, where you can import a picture and split it up for either normal piecing or paper piecing, using straight lines. You can also number the pieces, just for paper piecing. It is called Quilt Assistant and is available here: <a href="http://www.cosman.nl/software_en.html" target="_blank">http://www.cosman.nl/software_en.html</a><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I copied a picture from the web to create Kangaroo one.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIo3gaWuS4KRQM3iR42gk7kG4fZ3FzJ_41TAAkuOUjHXsmhNRF3Tg_cV8OCiG2lYapDTy0CBxBKXYXRc7wxUDcmH7I7YChyphenhyphenLTXbQFaE9HMyM3EogdVDKbRj9jmSl0FC8AxAUICdag4Y8bb/s1600/P1270003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIo3gaWuS4KRQM3iR42gk7kG4fZ3FzJ_41TAAkuOUjHXsmhNRF3Tg_cV8OCiG2lYapDTy0CBxBKXYXRc7wxUDcmH7I7YChyphenhyphenLTXbQFaE9HMyM3EogdVDKbRj9jmSl0FC8AxAUICdag4Y8bb/s1600/P1270003.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Kangaroo two</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Kangaroo two resulted from me cutting up kangaroo one, shifting body parts around and then drawing in the gaps. I used quilt assistant to do up the piecing lines. This one didn't have enough contrast, so I had to outline the kangaroo with brown zig zag stitches<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb33yjMVZCjLUWd84hhQHrCBCNr-kpeSzMSfO34n7NTxPxeAeJ4eWlJnsH7Y5OY9XpaGrgXmJNe7LGmq2Y-aFR7mxw5GGxpqL31bFMMebOFYUlVR6fUXPu5tOjc_GIMvIck08agXMMkmU8/s1600/P1270004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb33yjMVZCjLUWd84hhQHrCBCNr-kpeSzMSfO34n7NTxPxeAeJ4eWlJnsH7Y5OY9XpaGrgXmJNe7LGmq2Y-aFR7mxw5GGxpqL31bFMMebOFYUlVR6fUXPu5tOjc_GIMvIck08agXMMkmU8/s1600/P1270004.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Today's kangaroo</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Kangaroo three was based on the pattern from this site <a href="http://adventurousquilter.blogspot.com.au/2013/11/my-kangaroo-pattern-free-in-craftsy.html" target="_blank">http://adventurousquilter.blogspot.com.au/2013/11/my-kangaroo-pattern-free-in-craftsy.html</a>, but again, I put a drawing in Quilt assistant and made a similar patter with fewer pieces.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVQ3YMbb0JwBBLnJ7Vd8sLfzuMvYEl8xxxMNmTcF9ygVLNuIvDrDyojsmrxXXjwVCzYxkx1-LGL6pZfLonY4P2F5n6I9Q3gkcfhjx-IAcEiL0PdVmElYUcrmz_Jh2VwkpNor4gXCOjJ-wt/s1600/P1270005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVQ3YMbb0JwBBLnJ7Vd8sLfzuMvYEl8xxxMNmTcF9ygVLNuIvDrDyojsmrxXXjwVCzYxkx1-LGL6pZfLonY4P2F5n6I9Q3gkcfhjx-IAcEiL0PdVmElYUcrmz_Jh2VwkpNor4gXCOjJ-wt/s1600/P1270005.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">All together</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
While they are all different styles, I like them together.</div>
