Coral Reef tea cosy is done

I've finally finished it.  Two people want it.  I'm planning on making a series of landscape cosies and this is the first one.

This is a picture heavy post, a bit similar to this cosy, which is very heavy for a cosy.

I'm finally in the middle of quilting the tone it down quilt.  Maybe a couple more weeks to go.

Boring cosy

The next charity cosy is done. I don't like it much. It's boring. These are meant to be carnations. Pink is not my favourite colour. I could embellish this more, but given that it will sell for about $12, I won't bother.

Now to make a new base for the sunflower (stolen for the daffodil cosy). Ho hum.

 

 

Maybe more hyperbolic crochet (think coral) for the next one, although that is similar to the carnations. Something over the top anyway.

Too much fruit!

I've finished off another cosy. This one is number four for my mother in law's church stall? Two more are in progress.

Crochet, no quilting

I've decided to crochet for a while, as the weather has turned cold in the sub tropics. Joined a pineapple tea cosy knit/crochet along, although I only crochet.

The layout of my second DP lap quilt is decided. Just the setting triangles to cut.

 

 

I also finished the owl tea cosy for my sister. It hasn't turned out quite as expected, but it can be the prototype (size wise) for the pineapple tea cosy, which is also for my sister. I'll make a big raspberry for my teapot, as it is short and stout.

 

I just realised I don't have a finished picture of the owl! Maybe the next post.

The pineapple tea cosy has involved a lot of unraveling. I didn't like my effort with the puff stitch, so created my own pattern. The original pattern is the top bit and the stitch I have decided on is the bottom section. I had more than half finished the second side before I realised it was too wide, so had to unravel the whole thing and start again. Grrr to self.

I hope to have it finished in a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed that I won't have to unravel again, although I might redo the first side to make it straight. I am brain dead.

 

 

Too many WIPs - Progress report

I became a finisher.
Now, I have returned to my earlier self and procrastinate.
I started to piece some drunkards path blocks - I want to make two lap quilts for a couple of friends, but I'm wavering on the layouts. Here are some possibilities. I might make them mirror images, one with the dark quarter circles and the other with the light. Any ideas?

Owl tea cosy for my sister

DH and I have been on a mini road trip for ten days, down to the Hunter Valley in NSW to sample some shiraz. No sewing, as I didn't want a huge hand sewing effort, so I decided to return (albeit briefly) to crocheting. It was so easy to pick it up again. I made 21 granny squares while we were away and have made a couple since we got back on Sunday. Two more to go before I sew all the ends in and join them together for a blanket for my dog.

 

Yes, they look a little ;-) wonky but I'm hoping they'll straighten up when I join them.

 

My nephew's tumbling block quilt is also coming along as the vertical sections are all joined together and I only have seven more seams to pin and sew before it is officially a flimsy. It seems huge, but will end up at about 88 inches wide and about 105 inches high. I had to move it off the design wall as its too big.

 

I've bought large and small black and white fabrics for the back, but can't decide on how to piece it. Maybe pinwheels?

 

My niece isn't giving much away in her preference for styles, but said she liked teal and grey. I wanted to do something a bit more exotic, so drew a concept only drawing for a quilt for her. Very naive (childish.) looking at this stage. Hopefully I'll get better.

I chose some "teal" fabrics online, but most of them appear to be more turquoise in real life. Teal is a difficult colour as it means different things to different people. I'll send her the pics so she can tell me if she likes the colours or not. These are the fabrics I plan to use for

My scrappy trip around the world blocks haven't increased since I started the tumbling blocks .... They are just an afterthought after all.
